Hi, I've been running a Substack as my main job now for about 3.5 years, earning enough to pay the bills if not to make me rich, and I do think I disagree about discounts. I've always found even a small discount has been very effective at nudging people to start paying, especially when I do it just before the start of the season, or before the World Cup, or something like that.

Totally hear that! I've seen good targeted strategies like you're using with the World Cup — and every publication is different — but overall I do think they're overused.

Recommendation list should be updated now, too.

Best thing I did was listen to Austin & move everything to one place. MatchQuarters took off as soon as we did it. Allowed me to move into the space full-time which had been a goal for several years. Wish I would have done it sooner. Get a custom domain! Plus, it aesthetically looks better. MatchQuarters.com is much better than MatchQuarters.substack.com (plus twitter doesn't downgrade it...).

You’re saying social platforms downgrade “.substack” finally connected the dots for me. Total “duh” moment. Getting a custom domain rn… When you say moved into one place, you mean Substack being the hub of your operation, as Austin suggests in the piece?

Yes, exactly. I used to have a Wordpress site that was the original MatchQuarters. I went to Substack during Covid & never thought to move to one place. I had over 2 mil. hits on my old MQ site last year, since November that all lands on my Substack. It has greatly increased my growth.
